Application in IFJC (Internal Field Joint Coating) Service


I. Application Background


During the service of Internal Field Joint Coating (IFJC ) for pipeline protection , the girth weld surface quality of the internal wall has high requirements. In actual projects, due to the unstable of welding quality, site conditions limitation, and tight schedule, the following problems often occur:


• Excessive weld root height;

• Weld shavings and weld beads were not cleaned;

• Misalignment (uneven internal walls);

• Welding spatter and slag residue;


The aforementioned defects will directly affect the normal implementation of IFJC, for example:


• Uneven coating thickness;

• The coating cannot provide continuous coverage;

• The spraying operation was obstructed;

• Insufficient coating adhesion poses a risk of premature failure.


TYHOO®-GWG Pipeline Internal Girth Weld Grinding Robot can serve as an important supporting equipment before IFJC service, used to inspect and repair the internal wall profile of the weld, creating qualified conditions for subsequent IFJC application.


II. Main Applications in IFJC


The TYHOO®-GWG robot is suitable for performing the following operations on the pipeline internal girth weld area before IFJC operation or when operation is hindered:


1.Weld surface inspection

• Visual inspection of internal weld root height, misalignment, and local protrusions;

• Determine whether the IFJC spraying or coating process requirements are met.


2.Weld root height and defects grinding

• Mechanical grinding was performed on weld root height exceeding the standard.

• Remove localized defects such as weld burrs, weld beads, and spatter;

• Improve the smoothness of weld transitions and reduce coating application risks.


3.Internal wall profile modification

• Repair the misaligned areas;

• Improve the continuity of the internal wall and reduce the running resistance of the IFJC robot.


4.Pretreatment for IFJC

• Clean any remaining impurities from the internal wall;

• Provide suitable surface conditions for the internal field joint coating.

TYHOO®-GWG robot is not a substitute for welding quality control, but rather an important guarantee and remedial measure for IFJC construction. When the welding quality of the customer does not fully meet the requirements of IFJC, this equipment can quickly intervene to inspect and grind the internal weld surface, restoring the pipeline to a qualified state that can be implemented for IFJC, ensuring the smooth progress of the project.


• TYHOO®-GWG(Wired Control Type) uses an external wire for power supply and operation control. It is suitable for factory prefabrication and factory processing pipeline. It is applicable for the inspection and grinding of girth welds of the pipeline with operating distance within 200 meters from the pipe end.


• TYHOO®-GWG-WRC(Wireless Remote Control Type) uses lithium battery as power supply, while the operation system uses wireless control. It is suitable for on-site construction for the inspection and grinding of internal girth welds of pipeline that the operating distance is less than 1000 meters from the pipe end.
