Yulong TYHOO Internal FBE Coating Qualified by Shell

2016-12-27

December 2016, Yulong TYHOO Pipe Coating Co., Ltd (hereinafter Yulong Tyhoo), a subsidiary of Tyhoo Group and the fisrt large-diameter pipe internal primed FBE coating production line in China, has successfully passed Shell's Qualification assessment forinternal primed FBE coating and became a qualified supplier of Shell.

During the assessment, Shell conducted a systematic audit to Yulong Tyhoo's quality management system and HSE management system and witnessed production demonstration of internal primed FBE coating and offline lab testing according to Shell standard DEP 31.40.30.39-GEN February 2012 “Internal Fusion-Bonded Epoxy Powder Coating For Water Injection Line Pipe”.

During the assessment, Yulong Tyhoo has applied internal primed FBE for 20inch (508mm) size pipe with TAFF-523 as primer and TAFF-837 as topcoat FBE. Both the primer and FBE are specially designed and produced by Tyhoo.

During the assessment, lots of tests were conducted to both coating materials and applied coatings in Yulong Tyhoo's laboratory, and had shown excellent performance through all kinds of experiments.

Shell also expressed the interest and intention of introducing pipe internal primed FBE coating with internal field joint coating into Shell's future projects as a complete internal coating protection solution for pipelines.

Comparison Tests for Primed FBE and Unprimed FBE Coating

Lots of comparison tests were done on the differences of unprimed FBE applied with medium frequency induction heater and primed FBE post cured with curing ovens and below are some of the test data we got:

During long-term immersion test in hotwater at 95℃, primed FBE coating is able to keep a stable Tg3 after 12months immersed into hot water while the Tg3 of unprimed FBE coating decreased quickly during the first 30 days and the whole coating failed after 60days with coating got soft with bubbles and can be easily peeled off without any adhesion.

During long-term immersion test in water at 25℃, primed FBE coating is able to keep a stable adhesion after 12months immersed into water while the adhesion of unprimed FBE coating decreased quicily during the first 4-5 months and the whole coating failed after 9 months with coating got soft with bubbles and can be easily peeled off without any adhesion.
